A dental implant is a titanium component (like the root of a tooth) that is surgically located in the jawbone under the gum, which allows the dentist to embed the replacement tooth or bridge in the area. Implants are not removed like dentures. Dental implants are also beneficial for overall oral health because they do not need to be attached to another tooth, such as bridges. Implants are metal elements that are surgically placed in the maxillary bones, under the gums. Once placed in place, the dentist can place on them the crowns or fixed bridges that will replace the lost dental pieces.
